Just posting because I finally have a moment to do so.

Real Life danced in and snatched me. I have so much to do, and so little time to do it in.

Soon though, soon... I see the light at the end of the tunnel

Hey I'm working on chapter 28 with the "big thing" between Mal and the Doctor... this is Tangled Web I'm talking about, of course. The plot bunnies want Mal to not be a jerk, and they are making him too willing. :P So there's some delay as I beat them, OK?

:D

I had hoped to get it finished this long weekend but it just didn't quite work out that way.

I'll be splitting the next part of How the Doctor was Won and posting it here this week. Starting tonight. So I can then post the part after as I get it finished and feel like I am indeed doing something.... *looks at the 130 pages of script still to work with* I can't seem to get this bear to behave either.

And captured Riddick is grousing... Romana is hiding... and preggers Nine is standing here glaring at me.
Now where did Two and Jamie get off to and why can't I find Rose?
She better not be looking under that Kilt...

The main exception is the scenes that take place in and around the ship.

Part Two E: Communicating

The now familiar sound of the danger tone fills the air again, “It's happening every quarter of a minute,” Susan calls.

“Well what does that prove?” Ian asks.

It is Barbara that begins piecing the clues together. “That we have a measure of time as long as it lasts. Yes of course, that explains the clock face. We had time taken away from us, and now it's being given back to us... because it's running out!”

At that guess my stranglehold on the central piston that keeps the Eye of Harmony under control slips, causing an explosion that rattles the room and throws everyone off balance. This forces the Time Rotor to rise and fall. “The column!” Susan exclaims.

“But it…it's impossible!” My Doctor is shocked.

Oh damn it all. They break into a fight, Susan excluded. The Time Lord is saying, “What is inside, madam, is most important at the moment. I know now who's responsible. You are, you've sabotaged my ship.” Ian and Barbara protest that they haven’t touched anything, but the stubborn pilot of mine keeps right up with his accusations, “You are the cause of this disaster. And you've both knocked Su... you…you've knocked both Susan and I un…unconscious.”

“Oh don't be ridiculous, we were all knocked out,” Barbara says.

“A charade. You attacked us,” my Doctor insists, speaking right over Ian, “And when we were lying helpless on the floor, you tampered with my…my controls.”

Ian shouts at him, “But you checked everything yourself, and you couldn't find anything wrong with it!”

Part Two C: Communicating

I must find a way to communicate, and I must do it quickly. The explosion sends my Doctor to the floor, unconscious but stable. My screams at him are getting nowhere. Ian has landed in a chair and Susan is across the controls. She too is totally unconscious. Barbara wakes, and I try to reach her, hoping beyond hope that she will hear me. Instead she becomes disoriented stumbling through the room until she reaches something that has emotional meaning to her, “Mr. Chesterton…Ian Chesterton?” She is puzzled and unsure, and I realize that my attempt at reaching her is interfering with her ability to think. This won’t do. I need to try something else. But what?

Then Susan stirs, “I thought...” She staggers toward the other woman, “I know you.” I again try to communicate telepathically, only this causes the young, still developing, Gallifreyan to cringe and recoil, holding her head and fighting me off, “Ow!”

Barbara has turned toward her, concerned, “Have you hurt your head?”

Part Two B: Communicating

Tearing away from Event damages other instruments. I have no idea how far I’ve gone in that hop, nor if I’m even on the same world, at first, when I materialize. I must wonder how much a role I’ve played in the taking of the two teachers from their time. It has been lonely, these last few decades. I’m starved for companionship, as my pilot must be. While these two humans have far less intelligence than most Gallifreyans they possess a quickness and a life force that burns brightly to compensate. And they are mentally older than Susan is, more able to relate to my Doctor than the young child can. What I do know is that this location may teach the new arrivals exactly how much they have to learn in order to understand exactly how narrow minded they really are. I can only hope that they see…

My Doctor stares off into space, shocked at his actions. The two humans have survived their first trip into the vortex and he knows that means they are not human anymore, but something changed, different, altered in ways that will never be undone. Although they are unconscious they still live. But what has he done? Miss Wright comes too first, gaining her feet. She blinks and then kneels down at the man’s side. He’s on the floor still, and she shakes him gently, “Ian? Ian?”

Echoes.

I can sense echoes of my future self, crossing the Vortex, passing by this time and this place and once even stopping. This means that eventually things will work out and I will fly again. I have no worries. I could always see the future; the problem is telling which one is the one that I’m in the middle of. Five months I have sat here, inside my sibling, Event, not communicating with her as I might be wont to do, but listening to her whispers of pain as she is stretched across the five dimensions in ways I can’t even begin to understand. She never possessed the intelligence to understand her own situation much less explain it to another. We came about together, two singularities of intelligence, consciousness, and awareness, born of Validium. Both once destined to be weapons in an ancient war, which by one choice or another ended up taking very different paths to the same end. This end. Exiled from our kind, both as rogue elements against Mother, and because our male bonded have chosen this path.

I know she is bonded to a Gallifreyan, much like I am, but that is where our similarities end. Her pilot exists in thirteen forms, some of which are freakish in nature. Mine is whole and in one form, but is just as aberrant in the fact that he has secrets and past lives that he shared with me, that I alone now remember. While we were both born of Validium and felt the call of a Gallifreyan engineer, she tried to escape and was caught by her bonded, while I gave in and became what I am now. She’s no longer a weapon, true enough, but she’s no time ship either. She’s a temporal event, acting as a focus across time and space, like the head of a universal fungi of nearly invisible mycelium that only shows when places like this junkyard pop up as though a mushroom might. The presence of Event’s temporal pull allowed me to get back here even with the damage I suffered just prior to the attempt. I think I sense these echoes because I keep being shifted off my path slightly by that same pull much as a black hole diverts everything around it.

AN:  This can be a stand alone story. It’s written from the TARDIS’ POV and covers from the moment of ‘awareness’ to just before  “Unearthly Child” A good portion of this is a zip past the adventures and focuses on how / why the ‘Ship’ or Verity and the Doctor ended up with the relationship that they possess. This represents about a week’s worth of research, mostly on the web, checking stories, looking at different Doctor or Gallifrey based timelines, and in general wondering why no one has bothered with a TARDIS specific timeline. This roughly comprises one, and I’ve posted in TARDIS Parking a post that is a more cut and dry timeline format. My basic outline follows the timeline from Rassilon, Omega, and that Other guy, the very well done website by William B. Swift, with nods to the Canon Keeper’s Guide, which is part of Outpost Gallifrey. The Guide is compiled by David Hancock and Shaun Lyon. Where I altered things was at points that the placement was questionable and I thought the events made more sense elsewhere. Thanks to all of them for the great reference tools. Note, one thing I don’t use much of are the technical guides to the TARDIS. There are several very well done guides out there, but that information really ended up being less than important than I thought it would be. William B. Swift’s Tardis manual has a great ‘birth to death’ section though. If I’ve copied some of the words used it’s because I couldn’t think of any better way to say it… I honestly don’t mean to steal. :-D

How the Doctor was Won: Or the trials of trying to catch a stubborn Time Lord.

Part One: Meeting

I can remember… so very much more that just this life. There’s a sense of ‘before’ that I can’t shake. It seems sometimes that I’ve been around forever, here in this blackness, in the Caldera womb, right on the edge of this singularity’s core since time began. But that isn’t quite true. There’s another place called the Slaughter House where I truly began. It was in escaping from there that I found my way to the Caldera. There were others that made the jump, some less aware than I was, while others were about the same. I believe that I am the final proof of ‘I think therefore I am’ but my - sister, Lolita, would gladly argue the point, I’m sure. She believes that she is that proof. It’s a matter of perception. To the unobservant it would appear that we are nothing more than self-realized weapons, creatures of destruction. And yet, we are so much more. We, I say, because in the beginning there were fourteen of us. But only two were truly genius.

May. 15th, 2009 @ 10:55 am Nuts... nuts and more nuts...
My brain has been focused on How the Doctor was Won and the little aspirin problem there in.

You see, Vicki is given aspirin by Barbara that Barbara got from a cluttered table in the control room. She tells Vicki that the pills came from the Doctor's medicine kit.

Of course as we all know later it is established that aspirin can kill a Time Lord.

So what was the Doctor doing with a vial of aspirin in his control room?
Was it - - a last ditch escape route if he was caught by his people?
Something brought on board at another one of his stops that he never looked too closely at?
An honest mistake in the evolving mythos of the show?

How do I make it fit?

Here are the thoughts I had about it.
One: change the substance to something else. I'd have to look and see what other common medications were used in the 1960's of course. It would have to be something Barbara recognizes in order for her to take it from the box.
Or Two: explain exactly what was in that box that Barbara got into and why it was there (IE a 'final death' kit for if the Doctor was caught).  Only problem is, would the first Doctor and Susan be desperate enough in their flight from Gallifrey to stoop to such measures? I can only assume that if I go this route then the punishment for the crime of stealing a TARDIS and whatever else the Doctor did in order to leave was something very terrifying. Although I'm not sure what it would be that would make the Doctor willing to forgo all his regenerations to avoid it.
Or Three: invent someplace for Susan and the Doctor to have picked up a rather normal medicine kit from Earth that they never bothered to open and remove the deadly substance from. They'd have to have used extra care to get rid of the pills after all.

Also, I've posted this on Teaspoon and FF.net. Should I post it here too? (I'd have to break down the existing chapters into smaller sections to get it to fit.) Would anyone like me to?
Eh... I've decided to, yeah. Smaller chunks of course. :)

May. 11th, 2009 @ 08:19 pm working on stuffs...
Since Great Eclipse is finished I'm working on Ties that Bind (and because others have used this title I'm thinking of a rename).

Um... rename. I suppose suggestions on the theme would be helpful.
Will ponder that some more.

Also working on Threads, Tangled Web, and keeping my eyes / ears peeled for more good scenes for Temporal Ripples. I will confess that How the Doctor was Won is still cooking. I just need the correct mood for it, being from a single viewpoint and all.

Tangled Web
: the current chapter finishes up Bushwhacked. There's a span of time before the next story for Firefly (Shindig) and I'm seriously considering tossing in "End of the World" before going into it. The Doctor is going a bit cabin crazy and if I sneak in a parasite snagging scene that locks it away and have Mal get cold feet I could see 9 leaving (with Rich, River, Rose, Jack, and Inara) long enough to cool off. And Verity would be looking for a replacement Void, so someone on that station might end up helping a bit.

Thoughts?

A/N: Exactly 100 words. Sort of a 'What if' bit that I may elaborate on when I get to The Ribos Operation. Part of the Soul Web Series. Here the White Guardian has just thrust Romana on the Doctor as a new companion, but having met her he realizes who she is. Different choices in the past allows him to make slightly different choices now... He'll let her chose 'Romana' over 'Fred' after he's used the latter a bit, rather cheerfully. Although it will be a struggle to maintain that cheer, when he realizes he must cancel that vacation with Jamie he's got planned...

PS, Should I post this on Teaspoon or on FF.net?

He knew who she was the moment 'Fred' crossed her lips.

She didn't have the blond hair nor heart-shaped face he recalled.

The haughty airs almost set him off.

He knew he could charm her.

So he paused and regarded her carefully.

“'Fred' it is then,” he replied before explaining,

“Romanadvoratrelundar is rather a mouthful to shout when threatened.”

She blinked at him in surprise.

Impossibly, Romana didn't know if agreement to her choice,

Or his dazzling smile stunned her more.

“Tea?” he offered.

“Tea?”

“What do they teach at the Academe these days? Everyone should know about Tea!”

A/N: Exactly 100 words, a poem form. Sort of a 'What if' bit that I may elaborate on when I get to War Games. Part of the Soul Web Series. Here Zoe Heriot knows Jamie and the Doctor are a couple and that they have a small son. However, at the end of War Games she refuses to leave the Doctor's side. Maybe she knows that the Time Lords will hunt for the Doctor's companions if he's all alone? So Jamie goes, with his infant son, to the safe house set up on Earth. And the Doctor happens upon a cunning plan to save Zoe and keep her with him, too.

PS, Should I post this on Teaspoon or on FF.net?

Part of ~Soul Web~

He wanted to save her, But Zoe, unlike Jamie, refused to leave him.

Instead of sending her away, then, another option came into play.

Unable to endure the thought of having her memories stripped away,

The Doctor came up with disguising her as Lady Larna, Mother of Susan.

It was only fitting, as he loved her like a daughter,

That Zoe would become one, bonded as his Tyro.

When the Time Lords arrived, punishment at hand,

They found instead of one Renegade, two.

Jamie, in a Jade Pagoda, sheltered at Bannerman Road.

And The Doctor knew his family was safe.

Great Eclipse:

Writing is being difficult. It's Chapter 30, all there is to it.  I've only got a handful of chapters left here and it seems like 30 and 31 are going to take a lot of careful slow thought. I've been working on 30 since I posted 29 and I've only managed to revise a tiny bit (and add 3 pages).

Someone tell the smut bunnies that they can't have sex in the hammerhead tunnels, please! Heck it's not even safe to be thinking about it, and yet that's all I can get the characters to do.

OK, Imam, Ali, Simon, Carolyn, and Jack are not.

Suleiman's thinking about River...
River's thinking about Nine...
Nine's thinking about Verity and Richard (and trying to not think about River, but she's in his lap curled into a ball acting like she's asleep).
Richard's trying very hard to not think at all (rather he's very much fighting acting on his impulses).
William's thinking about Carolyn.
And we'll not go into what Paris might be thinkin', OK?

See... The smut bunnies are out and I can't seem to get them caged again.

Threads of Time:

Honestly, I've not thought about  this. I think I need to get chapter 30 and 31 out of the way first.
Plus I've still got section 4 of How the Doctor was Won that I should try to work on.
I think the Doctor has a bit of a personality crisis after he leaves Susan (gads does he giggle and laugh a lot after that... ). Maybe he's just trying to cope with the loss? Or perhaps it was the Actor trying to be less gruff? Who knows. It's just strange is all. I will finish that section though.

Tangled Web:

OK
I need to finish up "Bushwhacked" and decide where to head from here. I'm tending toward them trying to contain the parasite and the Doctor, Rich, River, Jack and maybe Inara trying to take Rose back home for a visit (which will end them up in a few other places first, of course). Just to break up the Firefly bits and to keep Nine from going insane from being stuck in one time period (plus Verity analyses those records of what happened to River and really does not want him dealing with that yet).

I thought I'd post something, at least, to keep everyone informed.

Ok, ok... I know I've not posted nothin'

But I've been working on a long overdue instalment of "How the Doctor was Won" (that's my First Doctor/TARDIS story) covering from Vicki joining up to when Ian and Barbara leave. I've managed to chop the scripts down from 158 pages to 130 and rewrite about 7-8 of them into story format. Slow going when the plot bunnies for other stuff keep bouncing into my head, although none of them there bunnies actually are providing anything useful.

Adult revision of chapter 26 of "Great Eclipse" is about half done and I could have finished it today but... I got caught up reading something instead *blushes*.

Chapter 7 of "Threads of Time" is nearly done just a bit of filling in and fleshing out should make it readable.

"All About" is on temporary hold until I get "Threads of Time" done if only because I need to work out how the changes that the Second Doctor's decisions will have on Victoria when they collect her up.

Also chapter 27 of  "Tangled Web" is on the boards, with Mal and the crew finally wiggling out of the situation with the Alliance. I'm toying with the idea that the Parasite will be contained enough for there to be a few eps from Dr Who slipped into play, Particularly End of the World, through World War III, before going back to Firefly again. Thoughts?

Grrr. Plot Bunnies slipped in some smut. Now they demand more smut (as if the existing scene is not enough) and so I must revise chapter 22, moving some scenes to chapter 23 to make room for said smut.

In the meantime, I have pics. One of these is one I likely won't use. Well, several might be. Anyway. I'll post 'em and that will have to do for now, until I get Smut out of the way.

You Should Be a Science Fiction Writer
Your ideas are very strange, and people often wonder what planet you're from.
And while you may have some problems being "normal," you'll have no problems writing sci-fi.
Whether it's epic films, important novels, or vivid comics...
Your own little universe could leave an important mark on the world!

Gee thanks OtherMeWriter...

I'm working on the Jamie/two/nine/Soul-Web crossover thing.

Opening scene inspired pic behind the cut. I have a few pages done already, but am still trying to decide exactly how graphic to make the second scene between Jamie and Two wherein the TARDIS discovers exactly what 'Fred" hinted at.

Note that this is a rough pic, no titles or quotes included.
